We're Still Alive!

Welp….It’s an underestimate to say that I am a little behind on blogging these days. So in a jiffy here is what we have done since then.

Celebrated Chinese New Year with soup dumplings in China town.

Admired the Empire State building shining bright pink for Valentines Day.

Kiker rocked the red hipster look for Valentines day.

We got a super cute valentine from a special friend in Texas!

Got a cute picture of my Houston Valentine Dixie!

Kinda forgot about breakfast one morning.

 Susie sent us more cookies

Worked in New Jersey and got to see this amazing view all week!

Found out New York City had a law to register all dogs

Performed the intern Starbucks run

Got new shoes

And a funny picture.

So that's what we have been up to lately.

Business Trip

So back in January I was told that I was going to be on a transportation company in Connecticut. Okay Connecticut, new state to conquer! Well lets just say there were many firsts had I on my trip to Connecticut.

It all started at 11 pm on a Sunday night when I realized that the train was no longer running to the town that my client was in (New Canaan). GREAT! I then heard from my senior on the job and was told that I should just rent a car and drive there from the city! YEP DRIVE! Well first of all most people would say I’m not that great of driver in Texas. Now add feisty taxi drivers, too many pedestrians and cops on every corner. WOO Weee I was bound to get a ticket or in a wreck. So I took the metro to Stamford and then rented my first car and drove to New Canaan. Of course this was right after surviving my first blizzard and there was snow piled higher than my car and raining. So of course on that early Monday morning I taught myself how to drive in the snow!

An interesting thing about Connecticut (and most New England states) is that they are so small so towns are pretty close to each other. I mean you can literally get on the highway and hit a different small town every twenty minutes  On the other hand in Texas you would still be on the same side of town! I guess what they say is true- everything is bigger in Texas. This also goes for the highways. As I was driving to New Canaan I was told by the trusty GPS to get on highway 95. So I was on the lookout for the tall lights, big overpass and entrance ramp. But instead what I found was a two lane highway that apparently was the biggest one in the state. Welcome to Connecticut.

After making it to New Canaan I met my team and got to chugging the coffee to keep me up for the ten hour workday. During lunch I got to venture out into New Canaan with my team. The town is SUPER cute! I certainly want to go back one day. Its about ten miles from the beach and is filled with cute shops and quaint houses. Certainly a summer place to visit!

After work I had to drive another 20 minutes to Norwalk where my hotel was for the trip. That town was a bit bigger than New Canaan and had some familiar places like Wal-Mart and Panera Bread.

During the three days that I was working I also took the time to do a little research. I soon discovered that there was a Target in Stamford WOO HOO! Hadn't been to one in over three months and was pretty excited to see most of the store on sale!

Overall, my trip to Connecticut was a great learning experience. Not only did I learn to drive in the snow or learn my way around Connecticut  I learned that business trips are exactly that. Business not too much fun involved.

I was excited to get back to the land of public transportation and of course my New York nugget… Laura!

oh yeah and did I mention... I got a parking ticket in New Canaan. Boo.

Saturday Snow Day

So after surviving having fun in the blizzard the day before we decided it was time to play in the LARGE amount of snow that was EVERYWHERE. Let’s just say the weather man was right when he said we would get over a foot in the city. Definitely right.

\
We started our Saturday off like we always do. Right down the street at comfort diner. And of course it didn’t disappoint.
(Yes, we may have ate all of it)

Then we set off for our adventures!

I had seen so many people posting pictures of central park and I figured it would be quite a winter wonderland after the big blizzard. And it most certainly was.

I guess it is a known secret that after a huge snow storm that everyone in the city should just go play in central park. So many happy people and kids running waist high in the snow.

Let it also be known that when you decide to move up here you better bring your sleds and cross country skis. There were tons I mean tons of kids sledding down the hills. There were jumps and all! Pretty impressive stuff. And for those who didn’t have actual sleds… well they grabbed whatever they could. Cardboard, container lids, trash cans, you name it.

I also saw people in the meadows park area cross country skiing. How AWESOME! Seriously I would have never thought to bring skis to New York City.

Central park was gorgeous. Seriously so much fun!

There were snow photo shoots (people had to have known we were from Texas at this point)

Sassy faces

Snow statues (so cool, must have taken so much time)

Snow men, both short and fat

And tall and handsome

And kisses all around

Selfies of course

And cute puppies that played in the snow.

For a moment I stopped and closed my eyes and listened to the sounds of Central Park. Instead of the husstle and bussle of cars honking and people cursing, I heard pure JOY. Children laughing, people talking, and snow falling from the trees. I opened my eyes to see people happy walking, kids sledding, and people smiling. This was the happy, real, post-blizzard, New York city. and I was so overjoyed!

After our adventures in central park we ventured to run errands.
Saw a puppy store. They were super cute but you have to wonder why they were half off?

Saw some awesome pictures

And I sign I just loved!
We also may have eaten fro yo for dinner.

That night we had heard of a Bulgarian bar called Mehantas in east village. With an Ice cage! Yep check it out for yourself. So of course we ventured there to make some memories.

It was an underground, packed salsa dancing, live band kind of place and boy was it SUPER fun!

Overall it was a FABULOUS day filled fun, friends and lots of snow!

( I also may have danced on a snow man)
